The AUSMAP website is great as it focuses on mapping marine debris across Australia. It aims to raise awareness about the impact of litter on marine environments and encourages our involvement in data collection and cleanup efforts!
So we got involved, we spent 2 hours sifting through the sand at Manly beach and we found so much microplastic it’s terrifying!
AUSMAPS has great resources for volunteers, tools for mapping debris, and information on how to contribute to reducing pollution in coastal and marine areas.
The AUSMAP hot spot map is a searchable and interactive map that allows our community to see where microplastics have been found in Australia.
It shows the average quantity of microplastics per square metre found in each location for each sampling session. It also shows the colour, type and size of the microplastics
